▶ 15. Business Phone Manners
[Phone starts ringing]
Louise: Okay, Jenny, come over here. It’s time to learn how to answer business phone calls. I'll show you how it's done. Watch what I do for a while, OK?
Jenny: Oh, yes, I will.
Louise: Hello, TomTim Trading. You’ve reached the Sales and Marketing Strategy Department. How can I help?
Mr. Anderson: Hello. Could you put me though to Bob, please?
Louise: May I know who’s calling, please?
Mr. Anderson: It’s Miller Anderson from Diamond Head Department Store in London.
Louise: Certainly. Let me see if he’s in. Please hold for a moment.
Mr. Anderson: Alright.
Louis: Mr. Anderson, I’m afraid he’s not available at the moment. Can I take a message?
Mr. Anderson: No, I need to talk to Bob directly. Could you tell him that Miller Anderson from Diamond Head called? I’m in the office all day and it would be great if he could call me back.
Louise: I’ll make sure he gets the message.
Mr. Anderson: Thank you very much for your help.
Louise: Glad to help, Mr. Anderson.
Jenny: Wow, Louise. That was very professional.
Louise: It’s no big deal, Jenny.
I have spent a lot of time answering the phone and fielding telephone calls.
